Pediatric Academy Leadership Partners
Meeting Cindy
Eunice Shen first met Cindy back in 2003 as an officer on the Academy of Pediatric PT Executive Board serving as the elected Treasurer. Cindy was the newly appointed Chair of the Pediatric Sports Fitness Special Interest Group. “I recalled seeing a petite woman dressed in a suit coming into our leadership meeting,” says Eunice. She also notes Cindy’s bubbly spirit and enthusiasm as they began serving together and getting to know each other through the years.
Leadership Transition
Eunice completed two terms as the Treasurer on the Executive Board of the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy. She asked Cindy to run for the position next, as she had owned her own private practice in Pediatric Physical Therapy. “I felt she would know budget and how to help our Academy to move forward to be a better organization,” Eunice says. Cindy demonstrated great leadership and was visionary.
Rising to Presidency
When she completed two terms of the Treasurer’s position, many encouraged her to run for President of the Academy. They were thrilled when she won. With her vision, the Academy started their own annual pediatric conference. Eunice volunteered and was appointed to serve in different committees and positions under Cindy’s leadership. She was an officer and chair for the Pediatric Sports and Fitness Special interest group from 2013-2017. She later served as the Chair of the Knowledge Translation committee from 2017-2021.
Conferences and Connections
They would meet at the Annual Conference of the APTA Combined Section meetings in the Spring and at the Academy of Pediatrics annual conference in the Fall. Many of these conferences were held in Disneyland and Disney World. Although they were busy at the meetings, they made time to stay at least a day after the conferences to do something fun together.
